  • Mike Thomas

    Board Chair

    The original vision for what is now the Huie Nature Preserve Foundation belongs to Mike Thomas. Mike retired as General Manager of the Clayton County Water Authority in June 2018. He worked for the Water Authority for 19 years, serving as the General Manager the last 11 years.

    While working for the Water Authority he dreamed of creating unique recreational options for the residents of Clayton County and the metro Atlanta area.

    Mike earned a Master of Science from the University of Georgia and has served in the water industry for over 35 years including positions with the Environmental Protection Division, the Atlanta Regional Commission, Parsons Engineering and the Georgia Association of Water Professionals. He has served in numerous leadership roles in the organizations where he worked as well as professional associations and other nonprofits.

  • Emma Godbee

    Board Vice Chair

    Emma Godbee joined the Clayton County Water Authority Board of Directors in May 2021. She is an independent financial advisor who has been a resident of Clayton County for 40 years. For the past 35 years, she has called Riverdale home. She was a founding member of Clayton County Coalition for Quality Education (CCCQE) and served on the Clayton County Tourism Authority Board for 20 years.Description goes here

  • Marie Barber

    Board Member

    Marie Barber began paving the way in public service for women and African-Americans in Clayton County when she joined the Clayton County Water Authority Board of Directors as its first female member in 1999. She saw this as an opportunity to make a difference in her community, while acting as a role model for others. She has served as Chair and Secretary/Treasurer. She currently serves as Vice Chair. She retired from the Clayton County Public Schools as a Resource Coordinator for Pre-Kindergarten. Ms. Barber is a graduate of Leadership Clayton, and a forming member of Grassroots Leadership.

  • H. Bernard Franks

    Board Member

    H. Bernard Franks serves as the Chief Executive Officer for the Clayton County Water Authority. He was promoted to General Manager in June 2018 with more than 20 years of experience at the Authority where he worked his way up the ranks starting as a water service mechanic. He has a passion for the water industry and the Clayton County community. A community that he has always called home. Mr. Franks has also served on the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and as President of the Georgia Association of Water Professionals Board of Directors.

  • Teresa Worley

    Board Member

    Teresa Worley serves as the Chief Administrative Officer for the Clayton County Water Authority where she oversees Customer Accounts, Finance/Procurement, General Services, Human Resources, Information Technology, Program Management/Engineering, Communications & Community Relations. Prior to this position, Ms. Worley served as CCWA’s Customer Accounts Director for nearly eight years, bringing with her 25 years of progressive and diverse experience in management, customer service, and project management.

  • Detrick Stanford

    Board Member

    Detrick Stanford currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer of Clayton County. Prior to his appointment as COO in 2015, he served as the Director of Clayton County Parks and Recreation from May 2007 to April 2015, and was in the Parks and Recreation profession for over twenty years, encompassing a variety of experiences in the field of leisure services. He also served as the Policy Planner and Legislative Liaison for the Clayton County Board of Commissioners. Detrick served on the Board and as a lecturer for the Supervisors Management School and is called upon frequently to speak around the Country.

    Detrick serves on several Boards to include Chair of the Board of Directors for the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and Past-President of the Georgia Recreation and Park and Association (GRPA). Mr. Stanford graduated from Georgia Southern with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1996 and a Master of Public Administration degree with an emphasis in Public Management from Troy State University in 2004. He earned a Masters of Public Administration degree from the University of Georgia in Learn, Leadership and Organization Development in 2020. He also holds a position on the Advisory Boards of several other non-profit organizations. Detrick is an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. In 2017 he was inducted into the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA) and presently serves as the treasurer. AAPRA is an organization of distinguished practitioners and scholars committed to the advancement of the park and recreation field.

    Detrick is married to Kallette Stanford and they have two children, Kiya and Dylan.

  • Janetta Greenwood

    Board Member

    Janetta Greenwood is the Director of Fernbank Science Center in DeKalb County Public Schools. She has a long service history in Science Educational Leadership serving as the former K-12 Science Coordinator for Clayton County Public Schools and the former President of the Georgia Science Supervisors Association. Her core mission is to ensure that all students have access to authentic science learning experiences that fosters a healthy curiosity about the world. She is a firm believer that all students can do science and works to ensure that all students have the opportunity to engage in real world experiences to see science applied to life. With a mission to increase minority representation in science and STEM, she has designed unique learning opportunities with a focus on Environmental Sustainability through problem-based learning to address the challenges of obesity, food deserts, climate justice, etc. in order to empower students to protect their community and address current challenges that negatively impact them.

    She is a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana where she obtained both her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and her Masters of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She also holds a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from the University of West Georgia. She has over 20 years of experience in Science Education and really loves increasing scientific literacy throughout local communities. Science is in everything we do and is a constant reality in our daily lives therefore it is our responsibility as educators and community leaders to ensure that we prepare children to be stewards of their community and work towards viable opportunities for environmental sustainability and societal advancements in science, technology, engineering and math.

  • Tameaka McKinney

    Board Member

    Tameaka L. McKinney serves as the K-12 Science Coordinator for Clayton County Public Schools. Previously, she served as the Coordinator of K-12 STEM Education with CCPS. Tameaka’s passion for education and touching the lives of others that directly impact children, is unwavering. As a district leader, she continues to work with students, teachers, parents, and the greater community with a focus on Science and STEM education. She believes in the power of effective leadership and building relationships that foster growth for the students in which she serves. Her love for science and STEM education is deeply rooted in her humble begins as an entrepreneur. Since, her focus has flourished into an advocate for ensuring that all are equipped with the tools needed to provide students with future-forward STEMulating experiences, that ultimately increase academic achievement. She supports curriculum development, teacher training, program implementation, and science educational policy advocacy. She remains committed to closing the gap of underrepresented minorities and women within STEM professions.

    Tameaka holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology and a Master of Arts in Education K-9 from Saint Xavier University of Chicago, IL. She later gained credentials in Educational Leadership from Georgia College & State University and in STEM Education from Middle Georgia Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA). Tameaka transitioned into the field of education as a second career, 13 years ago with Chicago Public Schools. She currently serves as a member of the National Science Teacher Association, Georgia Science Teacher Association, Georgia Science Supervisors Association, and Metro Regional Educational Service Agency STEM Advisory Committee.
